Project Descrip on

From the exis ng trail head at Ridge Road


To Walker Avenue in the City of Watertown
To preserve a former sec on of the New York Central
Railroad and to construct an intermodal trail for
pedestrians, bicyclists, joggers, and cross-country
skiers between the exis ng Trailhead parking area on
Ridge Road and Walker Avenue in the City of
Watertown.
The Black River Trail Extension will be a fully ADA
accessible trail constructed with an asphalt surface
and grassed shoulders on both sides of the trail.
Other improvements include a small trailhead
parking area at Walker Avenue, signage, and
pavement markings at road crossings. Construc on is
proposed for the summer of 2015 with a dura on of
approximately 4 months.

There are no proposed right-of-way takings required


for the project.

Permits

Permits will be required from the NYSDEC and USACE.

Tra c Maintenance

Routes for emergency vehicles will be maintained


and open during construc on. Where the trail
crosses exis ng roadways, shoulder closures and
short term lane closures with aggers daily will be
necessary to e in the trail to the exis ng roadway.
