Artist Research

Tony Cragg

Who Is He?
Tony Cragg is a British
sculptor and artist who
now lives in Germany
and works as a teacher.
He won the Turner Prize
in 1988 and has
received many other
awards, including the
now discontinued
Shakespeare Prize.

Influences
Cragg uses a variety of materials and methods to
create his sculptures. Much of his work is created
from his observation of the world around him and
thus many of his pieces of work start with using
parts of objects that are inspiring his work. The way
in which Cragg works as well is an art form in itself.
Where as a lot of artist will work methodically doing
one thing after another 'Cragg pursues his ideas in a
far more fluid and amorphous manner.' As described
in the book Tony Cragg, Sculpture 1975-1990.
