Overview
IBM plans to deliver a newly renamed and enhanced IBM DataPower Gateway
appliance that will utilize an extensible and modular architecture to offer the
(R)
functionality that is provided by three existing products, IBM WebSphere
DataPower Service Gateway XG45, WebSphere DataPower Integration Appliance
XI52 and WebSphere DataPower B2B Appliance XB62, in a single product through
optional software modules on both 2U high-density rackmount physical appliances
and associated virtual form factors.

IBM also intends to introduce new optional modules that includes IBM Security
Access Manager (ISAM) and business-to-business (B2B). The ISAM option will
provide converged policy enforcement and advanced security for mobile and web
applications. The B2B option will provide integration functionality beyond the
enterprise that is currently available on the WebSphere B2B Appliance XB62.
The new firmware architecture will make the product far more adaptive and flexible
to support changing workloads. Users will be able to add optional modules on
existing DataPower appliances at any time that will allow better protection of
investment while lowering the total cost of ownership.
Additionally, IBM intends to introduce a virtual edition of the DataPower Gateway
appliance for use within the Amazon EC2 cloud platform environment. This will
provide security, control, integration, and optimization gateway capabilities similar to
the current physical and virtual DataPower appliances.
