Answer the question: How does art depend on chemistry?

Process

Create a Google Doc titled: Chemistry of Art: Pigment Research

Type your name and the title in the body of the document
Go to the website: http://www.webexhibits.org/pigments/
Select the Introduction tab (at the top next to the Home tab). Read through.
Select the Time Periods tab
Create a section for each of the following Time Periods on your document:
Prehistory
Antiquity
Medieval Age
Renaissance & Baroque
Modern Age
Industrialization
Contemporary Age
Click on each of the 7 Time Periods tabs in the order they are listed
Read through the information on each Time Period page
For each Time Period, respond to the questions:
What elements and natural materials were pigments created from during
this time period?
Were the elements and pigments toxic or safe to use?
If any chemical formulas or reactions are discussed, please add them to
your notes.
Select the Choose a Pigment tab
Select any 5 pigments you like
Create a section for each of your selected pigments on your document. Please title
those sections the name of your pigment (example: Azurite, Carmine, etc.)
Click on each of your selected pigments
Read about them
Explain the chemistry of each pigment in your document (focus on elements,
chemical reactions and toxicity)
Select the Look Closer tab
Click on each of the 9 Scientific Techniques
Visible & Beyond
UV
IR
X-Ray
Microscopy
Spectroscopy
3D Modeling

Dating
Thomography
Read about each Scientific Technique
Select 2 Scientific Techniques that you find interesting
Create a section for those 2 Scientific Techniques on your document (use the
Technique name as your section title)
Summarize the science of each of those techniques

Conclusion
