Eating Right Food Groups:

Protein
The food group called protein is a
varied group. This food group includes lean
cuts of meat (such as beef, ham, lamb, pork,
veal), game meats (such as bison and
venison), lean ground meats, lunch/deli
meats, and poultry (chicken, turkey, duck,
etc.). It includes seafood, fish, shellfish, and
canned fish. This group includes eggs. It
also includes beans (bean burgers, black
beans, chickpeas, kidney beans, navy
beans, pinto beans, and so on), and
processed soy products (such as tofu,
tempeh, and veggie burgers). The USDA
recommends that children eat 2-5oz of
protein foods each day.When choosing food
to eat from this food group, it is important
to keep the fat content of the food in mind.
Eating limited amounts of fatty meats,
including sausages, bologna, salami, and
cuts of beef, pork or lamb is key to heart
