When a king died his children would take on
the role.
They would inherit the throne which is called
succession.

King of Egypt
Thought of as a god himself
If things were going bad, the people would
blame the Pharaoh for angering the gods

A Monarchy
A government by a monarch (ONE person)
who usually inherits the authority.

Ramses II (aka Ramses the Great)
Ruled for 66 years!
Unlike Hatshepsut, Ramses II wanted to
make Egypt powerful through war
Egypt extended its territory south into
the African Kingdom Nubia
He negotiated the first known peace
treaty with the Hittites
Having one leader for 66 years kept the
Egyptian government stable
His reign was also a time of peace.
