1: THE POWER AND PLEASURE OF LITERACY :

In the literacy class , which the teacher ask the students to set in the carpet . After that
the teacher read a story and the students describe what the story about . Reading story
develop students literacy skill and imagination .

Children select favorite books and participate in story time. How?

Some students select a book after the activity finish , while the students select favorite
book by seeing the cover page , title and the colorful inside the story .

Describe the home reading program in place. If there is none, make suggestions.

Teacher use free top scheme amongst others . Students are assessed , put in stage . By
year 6 students should be free readers .

The teacher plans activities for pre, while and post reading. List them. If not, give
suggestions.

for all students to see it. For example : colon , coma, punctuation , full stop , speech
marks , extinctions mark , question mark , a apostrophe and semi colon . He pasted all
of these card to help the students when they start to write the story .

Arranges reading areas

The students setting in the carpet in the back of classroom and bookcases behind
teacher tables .

Stocks the classroom with a variety of books and print materials

The teacher select many variety books by their level of reading ( high , middle ,low ).
Also select different books appropriate for boys and girls .

Places books where children can easily see/reach them

Bookcases is behind teacher table , which all the students can see the bookcase and it
can be easier for students to reach them.

Rotates literacy materials

Yes , the teacher change the books every two week.

3: KNOWLEDGE ABOUT PRINT


The teacher:
Shows children that we read English from left to right / top to bottom

In reading aloud lesson , the teacher shows the children how to read the story from
left to right and top to bottom. For example ; the students read the title from left to
right and in the top then read the person who write this story in the bottom .

Identifies features of a book, such as the author, title, table of contents etc

The teacher identify the part of book and shows children , such as the title , author and
picture place.

Points to words, labels, letters and reads or names them

During sharing reading , the teacher gave students the responsibility to read a high
frequency word . point to the word and pause ever time you come to it , while that
allow time for students to answer . also the teacher help students identify the
characters .

Helps children to recognize and write words

Teacher helps children to recognize and write words with games . Games are fun , a
hands on way to help strengthen their retention , like wordo or game bingo .

Draws childrens attention to uppercase and lowercase letters, punctuation, and


other print features

The teacher draws children's attention to uppercases and lowercase letters by explain
that written language uses set of letters in upper and lower case format . The teacher
teach the children the punctuation when they read a story and the story have a
punctuations .
