Pass Rush Fundys: Illinois DLine Coach Keith Gilmore

1. Down and Distance: When do they want to throw

2. OL Stance: Is he light or heavy?
3. Indicators: Timing the snap count on movements by
Center/QB
4. Great 1st Step: back foot must replace down hand
5. Hands on OL/Wrist and Elbows: Attack the soft
spots
6. Hips and Toes to QB: 3 steps then get hips pointed
at the QB, don't run the hoop (causes a narrow base)
7. All Moves Upfield: never delay to use a "move",
always moving toward the QB
8. Rules of Combat
-Quick & Violent Hands
-Boxing: Same Foot Same Hand
-Burst: Extra gear during rush to get to the QB
9. Rush the QB
-Not the OL/Angles: dont get in chicken fights with
OL, your only focus is to get through him and to the QB
10. Know Who to Rush: know if you are on the Zone
side or the Man side (man side tackle has two way go,
zone side tackle has to work back to the A gap and not
get washed down the line)
11. Ability+Intensity
12. Keep the Windows Closed: Stay in rush lanes
13. Know who the QB is, pocket passer or scrambler, it
will affect your choice of pass rush moves (contain)
