Summertive Assessment

Creative Media Level 3

Finance
As I have been given the task of creating a small single hand drama for the BBC I would
need figure out the finance I would need to create this media project. There are many factors
to take into consideration about finance when producing a media project such as a budget, a
budget is needed in almost any media product around the world because marketing is
needed also editing and advertising costs money as well. Not only would these factors cost
money but also props cost money to hire or buy.
For my media product I would need to budget the finance I would be given from the BBC to
buy appropriate props for my single camera drama. There are many things I will take in
consideration when creating the media product such as props for certain scenes to make the
single camera drama look as professional as possible. A main thing I would need finance for
is equipment for example a camera to hire to shoot the scenes of my single camera drama;
transport if needed to get to different areas and locations to shoot different scenes. Actors
and talent would be another thing I would need to take in to consideration when budgeting
my finance as some actors would star for free but other actors and talent would ask for some
income for staring in the single camera drama. The crew is another thing I would need to pay
as they would be doing a job that helps create the media project. The last thing I feel I would
need to take into consideration when budgeting my finance is hiring out locations and
facilities to shoot scenes if needs be also clearances of areas to shoot specific scenes as
well.
Occasionally the BBC normally gives around 500,000 to 700,000 but in my case as I am
creating a 3-4 minuet single camera drama they should give me a sum of around 40,000
which I think I good amount to budget and play with. I think overall I would need around 100
to shoot the media product as the actors are all voluntary and the locations and shooting
areas are open to the public and come with no price. I would use around 50 to hire out
equipment such as a camera, tripod and lighting to shoot my footage.
In theory for my single camera dramas finance I would get around 40,000 as I have already
highlighted as this is around the common fee they would give to a short camera drama
between 3-4 minutes long. As they are my clients I would respect the budget they give me
and use it wisely when creating my single camera drama.
