Central University Students Launch Green

Bucket Initiative
HYDERABAD: The students of University of Hyderabad launched a unique Green Bucket
Initiative (GBI) here on Sunday, planting about 200 trees on the premises of the School of
Management Studies.
The initiative is said to be a precursor to the Swachh Bharat Mission to be launched by the
Union government on October 2 throughout the country.
Under GBI-2014, students adopted the saplings they planted to ensure that they grew to
become trees. It is proposed to plant saplings and guard them apart from undertaking
awareness and sensitisation programmes on and around the campus.
Launching the green initiative, K Vishweshwar Reddy, MP from Chevella, called for participation
by all the students of the university to become part of this mission to preserve the planet. We
must involve ourselves in sustaining the resources and promote use of biogas in rural areas, he
added.
Hyderabad Metro Rail managing director NVS Reddy appealed to students to identify the
problems and contribute back to the society through green initiatives. He wanted each student to
adopt a sapling and ensure its nurture.
Vice-chancellor Ramakrishna Ramaswamy sought the MPs support for preserving the rich
biodiversity of the campus.
The flora, fauna and rock formations are part of Telanganas heritage and need to be
preserved. Our campus needs much more support to preserve the biodiversity and wildlife, he
said. V Venkataramana, a senior member of the faculty of School of Management Studies, who
conceptualised the initiative, said that students as Green Warriors should actively involve
themselves in such noble initiatives.
