Why UND is a Good School
Grand Forks Correctional Facility
UND is the largest and oldest university in the state. The Dakota Territorial Assembly founded the University of North
Dakota in 1883, six years before the founding of North Dakota as a state. UND is a good school because it has great
academic programs, as well as, impeccable extra-curricular activities.
UND offers not only a fantastic undergraduate program, but the University of North Dakota also provides students
around the world with the only Law School and Medical School in the state of North Dakota. UND is also ranked in the
top 100 public universitys by the U.S. News & World Report. Their most well renowned undergraduate programs are
specialized in aerospace, health sciences, nutrition, energy and environmental protection, and engineering. UND is of
only 47 other schools in the country that offers two different professional programs, school of law, and medicine.
The Aerospace Science program offers students the ability to earn a degree in commercial aviation, air traffic control,
and airport management. The aerospace school was founded in 1968 and is the largest civilian fleet training service
and facility in North America. Currently this program has 500-employed faculty and 1,500 students. UNDs Aerospace
Science program graduates the second most degrees for the entire university.
The UND School of Medicine and Health Sciences has been running since 1905, but had not adapted a full four-year
program until 1981. The UND medical school has produced half of the total number of practicing physicians in the
state, and 20 percent of American Indian Doctors in the United States were trained at the school. The other
professional program UND offers, is a bit older and has proved to be just as prestigious: the UND School of Law.
The UND School of Law was established in 1899 and since than has over 3,000 alumni. In 2014, the U.S. News &
World Report ranked the UND School of Law 124 out of 196 law schools. Currently the UND School of Law has 17 full
time professors and has produced many notable alumni: Representative Earl Pomeroy, and Olger Burtness both
graduated from the school of law, and both became U.S. Congressman.
The University of North Dakota has great academic programs, but no paper about how UND is a good school could be
complete without talking about Greek Life and Sports. The sports teams for UND all perform at the NCAA Division 1
level, and have provided its upwards of 15,000 students with plenty of entertainment, school sprit, and opportunities to
get involved. The Mens Hockey team has won seven national championships, the womens basketball team has won
three, and the football team has won two Division II titles.
Twelve fraternities and seven sororities call the campus and surrounding area of UND home. UNDs Greek life prides
itself on copious amounts of volunteer work and raising money for many charities. Many students find Greek life at
UND a very rewarding and exciting time.
The University of North Dakota is a great place to receive a life long education and fulfilling experience. They offer
students a great academic life, with all of their options of majors and programs, two of the most popular professional
programs with the School of Medicine and Law, and keeping all the students excited about UNO pride and Greek Life.
