Japan is a subject which fascinates many of us; and fiction which offers glimpses of the culture or

the history of that often mysterious country can be almost impossible to resist. I have gathered
here a number of what I consider to be the most absorbing of the books I have had the good
fortune to buy and read and which provide some sense of what Japan might be like. (Who but
the Japanese can really be sure.) The James Clavell books really require no introduction and
are superb reads. Laura Joh Rowland's historical thrillers are equally absorbing but in an entirely
different way, just as Eiji Yoshikawa's three volumes, although truly immense, are gripping in their
monumental scope, simplicity and sense of character, place and time. Lian Hearn's three books
are great reading, as is Philip K Dick's fantasy - for very different reasons. David Westheimer's
WWII What If... approach is the ultimate episodic chiller; and, finally, The Tale of Genji is a true
Japanese classic.
Where possible, I've included alternatives to the MOBIs that are available for all; but Calibre will
help anyone who wants to make any changes to format. Many thanks to the original uploaders;
and I hope that any downloaders will be prompted to buy some of these books. Read on, seed
and enjoy.
