How Does a New Ocean Form?

It is linked directly to the

origin of the atmosphere and
how it started.

The gases in the universe

colliding with many different
compounds originally caused
it.

The earth started producing

both oxygen and hydrogen,
which are main components
of water.

The main source it from

outgassing which is water
vapors trapped inside earths
core releasing.

Outgassing is the process in

which gas was released from
molten rock

4 million years ago,

outgassing started the first
permanent oceans.

Another theory is that it

came from comets colliding
with the earth many years
ago.

Where Did Oceans Form?

The hydrogen and oxygen from the atmosphere would eventually become water vapor as the
Earth cooled down to a temperature of 100C and below. The water vapor condensed into rain
and fell, landing on Earths Crust. The first oceans were formed from this rain, which would collect
in lower areas on the Earths surface. As time went on, the oceans filled up and will eventually
dominate the Earth. Todays oceans cover up over 70% of the surface of our Earth and contain
about 97% of all water on our planet.
