Quote: Perhaps ten times as much carbon exists in the whole biosphere is in

thermophilic bacteria deep beneath the surface, where they are possibly responsible for
generating what we call natural gas. (Chapter 1: Life, page 19)
Comment: This strikes me because of how much carbon has done for us. Supposedly,
we and everything on our planet originated from the element we know as carbon. But
what really interests me is the fact that we dont really use carbon to create anything.
We create weapons and buildings using other elements weve come to know. If the
carbon element created us, then it should be able to change its form.
Connection: I guess I could connect this to the fact that we dont only use one piece of
information to get things done. We as humans rely on information from other sources
we think are reliable to aide us in completing a task. We use what we know and add it to
the pieces that were given to us.
Question:
Is carbon really the element responsible for creating everything?
Who created the name carbon?
Why dont we rely on it?
What are thermophilic bacteria?
What is the biosphere?
What exactly is natural gas?
