Early Timing

Late Timing

Lower backswing promotes earlier

timing
Ball gets there early
Shoulders forward at release
Weak release
Low revolutions

Can be caused by too big of a

pushaway
Can be caused by slow swing
Can be caused by fast feet
Ball pulled through release area
Body pulls up at the finish

Perfect Timing
Have time to get a good release
Ball moves out with right foot (right handers start)
Ball by right knee as sliding foot is stopping
Arm finishes up toward ceiling

Swing Direction
Ball starts in front of bowling shoulder
Ball, elbow and shoulder all in a straight
line to your target
Pushaway direction in line
Swing stays within 2 inches, right or left,
of a straight line

Swing Plane
Pushaway moves forward and downward
with a smooth arc
Back"swing not an Upswing
Saucer shape, not a V shape
Swing moves back and forward, not up
and down

Arm Finish
Biceps muscle finishes by ear
Finishing up will help develop
a better release

Swing Speed
Start slower with swing
Let body synchronize
Build power
Maximum power at release

Sliding Leg
No collapsing of sliding leg
Keep sliding leg firm
Upper Body
Spine stays in position through finish
Trail leg
Clear trail leg over behind you
By clearing leg a path is cleared for
swing to stay in close to body
Swing stays in close, hand stays
behind ball

Balance Arm
Direction: Points out toward wall
Height: Between shoulder and waist
Release
Thumb drops out beside the ankle
Rotate the fingers 1-1/2 inches
Go for the ceiling (creates revolutions)
Revolutions create traction
Firmer fingers at release creates
stronger hook in last 15 feet of the lane
Softer fingers at release creates less
hook in last 15 feet of the lane

It is very important to develop an exact plan so your mind stays focused on a specific skill.
Start with timing - What do you need to work on?
Next go to your swing - What do you need to work on?
Finally go to your release - What do you need to work on?
Review the checklists and watch the CD to help you understand what you want to achieve
and which skill you want to develop. Write your own personal comment for each skill
you are working on in the space provided. Take some time to determine your practice plan.
Be specific and organized in your practice - soon you will be playing at a higher level.
Remember to keep your new skill development to no more than three items during a
session. This will allow you to improve your skills without getting too much information
at one time. You will make changes more easily and more quickly if you follow this
program.
