1. Vasopressin is a peptide hormone that is released when you are dehydrated.

Its action is to
preserve total body water by reabsorbing water from the urine in the collecting duct of the
kidneys. The collecting duct is located in the renal (kidney) medulla. Vasopressin acts on a Gprotein coupled receptor in the kidneys, which ultimately leads to aquaporin insertion into the
collecting duct, so that water can move from the collecting duct into the renal (kidney) medulla.
Note: Normally, the collecting duct is impermeable to water without aquaporins. How is
reabsorption of water possible?
