The Comparison of Blue Plasma Lymphocyte Count between Primary and
Secondary Dengue Infection at Dengue Fever Patients in Dr. Abdul Moeloek
Public Hospital in Bandar Lampung
xv + 70 pages + references + enclosures
ABSTRACT
Dengue fever is caused by dengue virus transmitted by Aedes aegepty,
Aedes albopictus or Aedes polynesiensis mosquito bites. A laboratory examination
able to detect dengue infection is blue plasma lymphocytes examination that is
useful for dengue diagnosis. Blue plasma lymphocytes is the lymphocyte reaction
from lymphoid as immune responses can be observed blood sampling.
This was a comparison study research of two groups with cross sectional
method. This research used secondary data of blood examination results of
patients with dengue fever diagnosis. Samples were 47 patients suffering dengue
fever in Dr. H. Abdul Moeloek public hospital.
The results showed that amongst 47 patients with primary dengue
infection, 7 patients (70.0%) had blue plasma lymphocyte of 1-10%, and 3
patients (30%) had blue plasma lymphocyte >10%. Amongst patients with
secondary infection, 25 patients (67.6%) had blue plasma lymphocyte of 1-10%,
and 12 patients (32.4%) had blue plasma lymphocyte of >10%. T-independent test
results showed that the averages of blue plasma lymphocytes were 12.00 in
primary infection and 11.73 in secondary infection (p-value=0.825). The absolute
counts of blue plasma lymphocyte were 30.74 in primary dengue infection and
34.24 in secondary dengue infection (p-value=0.503).
There was no difference of blue plasma lymphocyte counts between
primary and secondary dengue infection. Ho was rejected because p-value > 0.05.
