Holiday Gift Guide

November 20, 2014

Make the Holidays
Happen Downtown!

Page 13

All around the world, children are

suffering from the effects of war, disease,
disaster and poverty. A simple shoe box
filled with small toys, school supplies
and hygiene items sends love to those
who are hurting. Churches, community
groups, Scout and service organizations,
co-workers, families and individuals
have enjoyed the hands-on opportunity
to make a difference world-wide.
What is the goal for 2014? "We have
set our goal to collect 1,437 shoe boxes
during National Collection Week in
November", said local volunteer Kim
Bunton. "We want to get supplies,
resources and fresh ideas to anyone
wanting to experience the fun and

fulfillment of this mission outreach."

Bunton added, "The entire county
has been captivated by the simplicity
of the project and moved to action by
the huge impact OCC is having in our
world. It's impressive to see unity among
all the towns, churches and various age
groups as we aim for one common goal:
helping hurting children...hopefully
1,437 of them this year!"
National Collection Week is
November 17-24. Shoe boxes can be
dropped off at the United Methodist
Church. Together let's celebrate this
area's past accomplishments and launch
forward for another great collection
season.

The Rock Port Chamber of Commerce will be sponsoring the Christmas

Season Celebration in downtown Rock Port, Saturday, December 6, at
the Atchison County Memorial Building.
The Christmas Boutique is where shopping is fun! The very reasons
we love the holiday season can be our undoing. The lights, the sparkle,
the gifts that must be wrapped just so or the perfect gifts for friends
and family. The Christmas Boutique just might be your solution for
gift selection and home decorating. The Christmas Boutique is one-stop
shopping with no fear of the outside weather. Door prizes from each
business will be drawn throughout the day.
The Holiday Tour of Trees provides a festive addition to your shopping
experience with trees decorated by local businesses and organizations.
Santa will be arriving at his workshop at 2 p.m. on Saturday
afternoon and will visit with children from 2-3 p.m. Santas Workshop
will open earlier at 1 p.m. in the Liberty Theater and stay open until 3
p.m. Come and have some fun in Santas Workshop before you go tell
him what is on your Christmas list.
The Chamber of Commerce will be holding a drawing for $500 in
Chamber Bucks. The drawing will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday,
December 6. Chamber Bucks can be used at any participating Chamber
of Commerce merchant in Rock Port.
Maybe you want to do some calm and relaxing holiday shopping
after the craziness of hitting Black Friday sales or just want a chance
to visit with Santa. Christmas Season Celebration has everything you
need to kick off your holiday season!
