Core Competency 4

Engage diversity and difference in practice.

Practice Behavior 4.1


Recognize the extent to which a cultures structures and
values may oppress, marginalize, alienate, or create or
enhance privilege and power.

At Community Helps Network, it is my duty to learn and


become familiar with different cultures and to
understand the social contexts with ethnic minorities
groups.

Practice Behavior 4.2


Gain sufficient self-awareness to eliminate the influence
of personal biases and values in working with diverse
groups.

I need to gain knowledge about the different ethnic


groups. I will include analyzing ethnic, racial and gender
issues. I also need to be considerate of the clients culture
and social environments.

Practice Behavior 4.3


Recognize and communicate their understanding of the
importance of difference in shaping life experiences.

I will evaluate and understand the clients history and


behavior problems to have a prospective understanding
of their life experiences. I will also refer the clients to
services that will be beneficial to them.

Practice Behavior 4.4

View themselves as learners and engage those with


whom they work as informants.

I will help the client to understand their placements and


interventions that are being used for their well-being.
