Reading Comprehension (3 reading passages, each

passage has 13-14 questions, 60 minutes total to do all


three)

Basic Strategy (reading comprehension)


1. Read the question and underline the Keywords.
(subject, verb, object)
2. Scan and locate the keywords in the passage.
(keep in mind that you might need to find
synonyms)
3. Read the sentence in the passage where you
find the keywords. (look out for language that
indicates you should read more than the
keyword sentence (this, that, these, those, they,
their)
4. Choose the correct answer (most likely will use
synonyms)

Follow the 4 steps
1. True: if you see the Subject, Limiting Language (verb,
adverb, adjective), Object. (made difficult by using
synonyms)
1. Question: The birds are quickly flying south for
the winter.
Passage: During the coldest months the birds rapidly
migrate south.
2. False: If the Subject, LL or Object are
different/opposite, put False
Example:
2. The birds are quickly flying south for the
winter.
Passage
(1) During the coldest months the birds slowly
migrate south and eat apples.

(2) During the Spring, the birds rapidly head


south. False
3. Not Given: If the subject, LL, or object are missing,
then you put Not Given.
3. Question: The birds are quickly flying south for
the winter.
Passage: During the coldest months, the birds fly
south. Not Given
Passage: When the snow is falling, the birds migrate
quickly. Not Given

Headings Question: they are asking you to pick out


the best heading/title for a paragraph.
1. Read the topic sentence of the paragraph.
2. Also you might read the last sentence of the
paragraph OR some like to read the second
sentence of the paragraph.
