Cadmium (Cd) is one of the many heavy metals polluting that exposed in
the environment. Cd used in the battery industry. Cd is classified by the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency as one of the world's most dangerous
pollutants. Cd It has a toxic effects on many organs such as the ovaries. Cd
stimulates formation of ROS that can cause oxidative damage in various tissues.
Ultimately it could that impair the function of the cell membrane. Superoxide
dismutase (SOD) is an antioxidant enzyme that works by opposing by cutting free
radical superoxide radical in O2-. It forms so that a stable O2. The aim of this
study was to find out the effect of Cd exposure on the activity of dismutase
superoxide enzyme within rats ovaries. This is research is an experimental
laboratory research usingthat was conducted in 2 groups. , namely cControl
group P(0) is was given by 2 mL aquadest and exposure group P(1) is was given
the concentration of Cd with 1.2 x 10-2 mg daily for 4 weeks . The results showed
the mean of the activity of superoxide dismutase enzyme in the P(0) of was 0,0050
%/min and while in the P(1) group was of 0,0700 %/min. After Statistical anaylis
using Mann - Whitney test found significant differences of the two groups with p =
0,000 (p<0,05). It can be concluded that Cd causes increased the activity of SOD
enzyme in mice rats ovaries.
