September News

General Notes
It is difficult to believe that we are beginning our third week of school. The first two
weeks of school, we focused on learning routines and learning how to play together and
treat each other with respect.
This week, we implemented the red, yellow, green behavior system. We tended to be a
little stricter this week to ensure the students understood expectations. If there were
any major discipline problems we would be contacting you personally.
We have also implemented the reading and math programs (see notes below).

Reading
Throughout the month of September we
will be reviewing the alphabet.
We started the Jolly Phonics program.
It uses songs and large muscle
movements to teach the letter sounds.
This week we introduced the following
sounds /s/, /a/, /t/.
We learned the sight words of I and
am. We will continue the work in the
coming week. The ordinal number words
were also introduced. Comprehension
skills this month include Recall and
Retell and Prediction.

Math Notes
In Math, we have been working on
counting, days of the weeks, math
vocabulary (before, after, how many,
etc.) during our morning circle.
In the afternoon, we have begun sorting
and graphing and finding out what we can
learn from information graphed.
