Design Tool)
Creating a Universe using IDT
**Here the data is stored in a MS Access DB and connection to the DB is made
using ODBC**
Our intension is to design/develop a Universe, which can be used by the webI
users to create reports as per the requirements. The process is as follows;
1: Creating a project
Tutorial 1

2: Creating Database Connections


3: Creating Data Foundation layer
4: Insert Tables and Joins to DFX layer
5: Creating Business Layer
6: Creating Folders/Classes and Objects (Dimension, Detail, Measure) in BLX layer
7: Creating Queries to Test
8: Publish to repository

Creating a Project and Database Connection


Open IDT

File -> New -> Project

Give Project Name here. Project location specifies your workspace in your local
drive where the project files will get saved

Now you will see your project name in Local projects (Client_Work Space)
Right Click on the project -> New -> Connection

Here you will find two options Relational and OLAP connection
As our database connection is from system ODBC, we will select Relational
Connection

Select your database connection (here MS Access). IDT gives you multiple options
for Relational DB connection

Select your Data Source and test the connection

You will see the connections in your workspace
