Reflective Analysis of Portfolio Artifact

Rationale/Reflection
NAEYC Standard:
STANDARD 7. EARLY CHILDHOOD FIELD EXPERIENCES
Field experiences and clinical practice are planned and sequenced so that candidates develop the knowledge,
skills and professional dispositions necessary to promote the development and learning of young children
across the entire developmental period of early childhood in at least two of the three early childhood age
groups (birth age 3, 3 through 5, 5 through 8 years) and in the variety of settings that offer early education
(early school grades, child care centers and homes, Head Start programs). (NAEYC, 2010)

Brief Description of Evidence:

During the fall semester of 2014 during my ECED 260-Early Childhood Professional course, I built a
professional resume. In this resume I gathered information of field experience of working with children of
multiple ages as well as my education in the early education field.
Analysis of What I Learned:
Through completion of this assignment I gained the knowledge of what is important information and
what is not so important. I learned to format my qualities and skills that are most present to demonstrate my
competence in early education. I stated in my resume the large range of ages I worked with along with the
variety of settings to state the field experiences that Ive gained within three years. I learned to value children
who are grouped by age. I have learned positive feedback when children are paired together by similar age.
My professional growth has growth rapidly by working with a wide range of children.
How This Artifact Demonstrates my Competence on the NAEYC Standard:
This resume demonstrates my competence on NAEYC standard 7 by displaying my field experience
while working with multiple children of different ages. As well as the knowing what is developmentally
appropriate for the particular age group. I relate this theory to Piaget's theory of four stages of development.
Piagets four stages of development had learning objectives for children paired in age categories. I connect
these four stages of development by knowing children and applying what is approximately age appropriate.
