TWO NEW YORK ARTISTS LECTURE AT WEBER STATE UNIVERSITY

Artists Benjamin Cottam and Jenny Morgan will visit Weber State University (WSU) to speak at
the Mary Elizabeth Dee Shaw Gallery for the Artist Lecture Series, at 7 p.m. on Nov. 19, 2014. The
guests will speak in lecture hall 120 of the Ethel Wattis Kimball Visual Arts Center. This event is free and
open to WSU students, faculty and the community.
The Mary Elizabeth Dee Shaw Gallery is excited to invite these artists to WSU because they each
bring an interesting angle on the art of portraits.
Morgan, originally from Salt Lake City, is a figurative painter who focuses on human
relationships and self-awareness in her work. Morgans work has been featured in over 25 publications,
12 solo exhibitions and she has received eight awards for her work, including the Top Representational
Artist by the Rocky Mountain News. Plus Gallery, located in Colorado, states she is, one of the nations
most remarkable contemporary portrait painters under the age of 30.
Cottam uses drawing to illustrate self portraits or portraits of famous people. He keeps his
artwork at a very small scale and uses drawing as his main medium. Smudge marks and unfinished faces
are displayed in his portraits to show emotions such as despair. Cottam's work has been featured in over
15 publications and in 10 solo exhibitions.
Both Morgan and Cottam have a Master of Fine Arts; Morgan received hers at the School of
Visual Arts in New York City (NYC) and Cottam received his at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts
in Boston, Massachusetts. They both currently live and work in NYC.
