Essential Guiding Questions:


The students will be given a KWL chart where they can fill out the Know section
with their prior knowledge of Tallahassee, and the What to know section with at
least five questions they have about the subject or topic they are interested in learning
more about.
Set Up and Prepare:
Teacher will began by read Uniquely Florida by Bob Knotts to the class.
Introduce the state capital
Teacher will show the class a tour the Capital courtroom and give a brief background

Present images of Tallahassee and discuss historical monuments.

Procedures:
Students would complete a web quest. Located on the Weebly site under Internet sites
called Explore Tallahassee.
Students will visit Fun 4 Tally Kids website

Students would then pick 3 historical attractions they would like to visit, 2 tours they
would like to take and 3 other places they would like to visit.
When going on vacation students will need a suitcase to carry all of their belongings.
Students would then create their suitcase and decorate their suitcase with visual
representations of the capital.
Students will also need a wallet to hold all of their money for the trip. Students will
then receive their wallets.
Students will receive their readers theater material. Students will read over part of the
readers theater and will prepare for day four to preform the material.
Supporting All Learners:
Students who struggle with language will be provided an abundant amount of visual
ad.
ESL students will be able to work with a partner to complete the webquest

Resources/Materials

Engaging Book-Uniquely Florida by Bob Knotts


Suitcase materials- Clear masking tap, two pieces of brown or black contraction paper
per student, two pieces of ribbon or strips of construction paper per student for
handles.
Wallet Materials- Small index box holders (one per student)
Decorating items (Markers, crayons, stickers, etc.)

Home Connection:
Students are encouraged to take the completed project home at the end of the week
organized in a suitcase and wallet made by the students on day 1 of this unit.
