Project Topic: Orthopedic Doctor/Surgeon
Senior Project Proposal
Objective:

For my Senior Exit Project, I have chosen to shadow an orthopedic doctor in a hospital
or outpatient center. While shadowing, I will be examining the daily activities of an
orthopedic doctor, such as diagnosing, treating and repairing injuries, and evaluating
disorders and diseases affecting the musculoskeletal system. I have strong math and
science skills, as well as great attention to detail, which are traits that are well suited
for this field of work. By completing this project, I hope to have a better
understanding of what orthopedic doctors do in order to diagnose and treat each
individual patient correctly, but efficiently.

Purpose:

I have chosen to focus on orthopedic doctor for this project because I think I would be
capable and comfortable working with injuries and other diseases in the
musculoskeletal system to treat and diagnose each individual patient. After completing
this project, I hope to discover if this will be a career I would enjoy and want to pursue
in the future.

Major Expenses:

The following items will need to be purchased during my Senior Exit Project:

Portfolio supplies: $30.00

Transportation: $40.00 for drive time to hospitals or outpatient centers.
Total: $70.00

Possible Critical
Issues:

Is obesity connected to various orthopedic conditions like injuries and diseases?

Do patients develop unique complications, and how does management of these
complications requires understanding of preoperative co-morbidities and early
recognition/treatment?
