1. Obtain Transfer Function G(s) =
are friction constants in N-s/m.

X3 (s)
F (s) .

Here f (t) is input, x3 (t) is output and fv1 , fv2 , fv3 , fv4

2. Obtain state space representation for the system described in Problem 1 using physically
meaningful state variables. Assume x1 as output variable.
3. A dc motor controlled through armature voltage is connected to load as shown in Figure 2.
Torque speed curve is shown in below figure. Here K, D, J are spring constant, Coefficient of
Viscous Friction, and Moment of Inertia respectively; N1 N2 are gear teeth. Obtain transfer

4. Obtain transfer function G(s) = X(s)/T (s) for the system shown in the below figure.

5. Consider the restaurant plate dispenser shown in Figure 4, which consists of a vertical stack
of dishes supported by a compressed spring. As each plate is removed, the reduced weight on
the dispenser causes the remaining plates to rise. Assume that the mass of the system minus
the top plate is M , the viscous friction between the piston and the sides of the cylinder is fv ,
the spring constant is K, and the weight of a single plate is WD . Find the transfer function,
G(s) = Y (s)/F (s), where F (s) is the step reduction in force felt when the top plate is removed,
and Y (s) is the vertical displacement of the dispenser in an upward direction
