SAMUEL DE CHAMPLAIN

1.What were the major


accomplishments of your
explorer?

Question 1:
Samuel De Champlain had several great accomplishments in the
1600s.He guided many French to start a new life in Brouage, a seaside town in
France. He loved the sea and liked to draw. That is why he grew up to become
an explorer and mapmaker. He also became a navigator.
When Champlain was a young man, a war was being fought in France.
The Catholics and Protestants were fighting against one another. Champlain
was on the side of the Catholics. He was a soldier. These survival skills would
come in handy when he became a soldier.
In 1598, Champlain took his first voyage. He signed up to go on a French
ship that was going to Spain. This ship was called the Saint Julian. He travelled
on the Saint Julian for almost 3 years.

2.Where did they explore, and


why is it significant?

Question 2:
He explored in North America. This happened in 1603. He also explored
in New France. In North America, he established the city of Quebec. He
became the governor of New France.
Everywhere he explored, he brought new places to be known among
us. He discovered many places that are very important to us now. All other
explorers did too. However, it is the places they discovered that are important.
All over the world, we live in places other people explored.

3.What events in their lives led


them to be amazing explorers?

Question 3:
Samuel De Champlain had several amazing events in his life that made him
amazing. One event is the war in France( when he was a soldier ). Another is
when he took his first voyage. He also traveled on the Saint Julien for almost 3
year. He had many more special events.
These events helped him be amazing. Being a soldier gave him many
survival skills. Taking a first voyage means you are most likely now an explorer.
Traveling on a ship for about 3 years is a big deal for most explorers. From this
information, you can conclude that Samuel De Champlain is a wonderful
explorer.
