Dear Professor Jackie Hymes,
Picking racism towards African-Americans as my topic for my Progression 3 essay was very
interesting to me. I enjoyed doing research and learning even more about a topic that I feel so
strongly about. Not only did I use information that I already knew for this essay, but I also
learned a lot through my research, which you can see by my long list of works cited. Although I
have never really been good at revising my essays once I have written one, I feel like I really
listened to your comments from the online conference and did the best I could by revising my
essay. I have never written an essay before using in-text quotations, but I looked up how to use
them properly, and hopefully I did a job well done.
For grading, I would give myself a 10 out of 10 for the assignment requirements, due to the fact
that I followed the instructions of the prompt.
For content, I think I earned a 43 out of 50, being that I did extensive research about my topic
and provided examples for my argument.
I would give myself a 25 out of 30 for organization because I seem to tend to have trouble with
transition sentences.
Although I re-read my essay a few times, I would give myself a 7 out of 10 for mechanics just in
case I made a few mistakes, since this was the first time I used in-text citations.
Hopefully I didnt use any fallacies. I looked over the fallacies page that you posted to the class
website to double check, but if I did use any, than I may need to get a better understanding of
what I am doing wrong.

Thank you,

Amy Dersh
