What is Osteoarthritis?

Osteoarthritis (OA) also known


as degenerative arthritis or
degenerative joint disease or
osteoarthrosis, is a group of
mechanical abnormalities

involving degradation
of joints,

joint
pain,
tenderness,
subchondral bone
stiffness,
locking, and
sometimes an effusion

million people in the United Kingdom and
nearly 27 million people in the United
States

50 million people are affected with arthritis. It is


estimated that 1 in 2 people will get
symptomatic knee OA in their lifetime. It is
estimated that 1 in 2 people will get some form
of OA in their lifetime.

Sorry Ladies!

Men under age 55 are more likely to have OA than

women in the same age range. After age 55,

however, women are more commonly affected.


Overall, more women have osteoarthritis than men.
