Introduction
To begin the lesson I will have a series of photographs of different
places. As a class we will decide which pictures are of farms and

which pictures are not. I will then ask students to share how they
knew which photographs were of farms and which were not. As a
class we will make a list of things we see on the farm and things
we see in the city.
Guided Practice
After completing the list from the introduction, students are going
to learn about what farmers do and how they help the community.
To explain what a farmer does for the community I will read the
book A day in the Life of a Farmer by Heather Adsamson. This
book will teach students about what a day in the life of a farmer
would be like and the different things a farmer does. At the end
of the story we will have a discussion about the jobs farmers do
and ask for personal experiences about visiting a farm. I will share
my own personal experiences of living next to a farm when I was
little.
Independent Practice
For independent practice I will have students write 2 to 3
sentences about what their favorite part of living in the farm would
be. Then they will color and cut their own farmer, glue it on
popsicle sticks and put on a picture of their face on the farmer.
They will be displayed in our Farm Bulletin Board.

Closing/ Assessment
To wrap up the lesson I will have several students discuss what is
different between the city life and the farm life. Then to close up
our lesson we will play one or two rounds of the game The Farmer
in the Dell
