3) After the diagram,

First lets solve for potential flow outside boundary layer, for the case where
R(X)<<1.
a) Use scaling to prove that,
Vinf/uinf ~ R<<1
Where Vinf and uinf (=Vinf(X), uinf(X)) are thr X&Y velocity components
in potential flow region.
b) Apply Bernoullis Eqn bet. X=0 (where uinf(0) ~ 0) and X=L (where uinf =
uinf(L)) to show that the vol. flow Q through the line is
Where A(L) = R^3(L)
c) Using eqn. and result from part b) show that
d) The approx. momentum integral for this prob. can be obtained by
integrating the streamwise momentum eqn across the boundary layer (in
the radial direction).
Where y is direction normal to the conical boundary, u = u(X,Y) is the
boundary layer velocity profile, (x) is the local boundary layer thickness
and
w = u/y @ y=0
Assume a linear boundary layer velocity profile of the form
u = a + by
and show that the momentum intergral eqn. (d.1) lends to the revolving
O.D.E in (x):
(d.2)

e) Solve (d.2) to show that,
