Fillmore Friday Focus

Vol. #12

NewsFlash
WASC, a four letter acronym that
can strike fear and apprehension in even
the most veteran of school staffs. Not so at
Fillmore High School. The Flash Faithful was
cool, calm and collected as they responded
to every question with the knowledge and
experience of many years.
It was a team effort and in the end
the Flashes remained on top with an
unofficial 6 year accreditation cycle. The
official word will come in six to eight weeks
after the WASC Board approves the
committees recommendation. Well played
Fillmore High School, well played.

Senior softball player extraordinaire,
Kayleigh Thompson signed a letter of intent to
attend West Virginia State University on a full
ride athletic scholarship. She wanted to hold
the letter signing in the Fillmore High School
Sports Hall of Fame. In the background are a
framed photo and the lettermens jacket that
her mother wore while attending Fillmore High
School.

Classroom Corner
Mr. Ricards Integrated Science classes
were given the assignment to design a windmill
as part of an alternative energy unit. With very
little parameters and guidance, the students
utilized the information they had gleaned from
previous lessons. Each windmill was tested
with an electric fan at various speed settings to
measure the rate of efficiency. Through trial
and error most of the students were able to
build an efficient windmill.

Activities
The Renaissance Assembly recognized
Fillmore High School top scholars of all grade
levels. Students were treated to a surprise
appearance by the Spice Girls. But what
brought the house down was our very own
Rocio Benavidez as she sang a Selena song.

Students clapped along rooting her on and at
the end clapped wildly in appreciation of
Rocios performance.

The Mighty Fillmore High School Marching Band

performed well at the last band competition of
the year. There was a marked improvement
throughout the year and with only 12 seniors
leaving, the band looks to be very strong next
year.
