Child Rights issue of my Interest

If there were no schools to take the children away from home part of the time, the insane
asylums would be filled with mothers. - Edgar W. Howe
My area of interest regarding Child Rights issue is in the area of Education. Since education
is the backbone of every countrys economy, I feel that it is the responsibility of every
individual to give importance in the area of education for children.
According to international law, a child means every human being below the age of 18 years.
India has always recognized the category of persons below the age of 18 years as distinct
legal entity. What makes a person a child is the persons age. Even if a person under the
age of 18 years is married and has children of her/his own, she/he is recognized as a child
according to international standards.
The Constitution of India guarantees all children certain rights: The Rights to education Act.
Right to free and compulsory elementary education for all children in the 6-14 year
age group (Article 21 A).
The importance of education in enabling the individual to put his potentials to optimal use is
self-evident. Without education, the training of the human minds is incomplete. No individual
is a human being in the working world until he has been educated in the proper sense. The
mind was made to be trained and without education, a person is incomplete in that sense.
Education makes one a right thinker and a correct decision-maker. It achieves this by
bringing him knowledge from the external world, teaching him to reason, and acquainting
him with past history, so that he may be a better judge of the present. Without education,
man, as it were, is shut up in a windowless room. With education, he finds himself in a room
with all its windows open to the outside world. In other words, people who are not educated
have less opportunity to do what they want to do.
