Reflective Analysis of Portfolio Artifact

Rationale/Reflection
NAEYC Standard:
STANDARD 6. BECOMING A PROFESSIONAL
Candidates prepared in early childhood degree programs a) identify and conduct themselves as members of
the early childhood profession. They b) know and use ethical guidelines and other professional standards
related to early childhood practice. They c) are continuous, collaborative learners who demonstrate
knowledgeable, reflective and critical perspectives on their work, making informed decisions that d) integrate
knowledge from a variety of sources. They are e) informed advocates for sound educational practices and
policies.

Brief Description of Evidence:

During the fall semester of 2014 during my ECED 260-Early Childhood Professional course,
collaboratively I worked with a group of peers to create a relaxation night for early childhood providers for an
advocacy project. I collected items to put in gift bags for the teachers. I also attended the event.

Analysis of What I Learned:

Through completion of this advocacy project, I learned how to ask companies for a donation of
items/coupons for an event. I learned how to advocate for something that is important to me by working
collaboratively on a presentation; gathering statistics and quotes about early childhood educators.

How This Artifact Demonstrates my Competence on the NAEYC Standard:

This project is just one of many projects in which I worked collaboratively with peers to create,
implement, and reflect on an advocacy project. I identified with other early childhood professionals by
networking at the relaxation event and conducted myself as a member of the early childhood profession.
