(signifies what it is) the genre (type of magazine) to be music as the Masthead (title of the magazine) is DJ. From the Masthead, I can also determine the subgenre (a sub-division of genre) to be Electronic/Dance Music but also from the Main Image (image on the front cover). However, unless you are familiar with the Electronic sub-genre then it will be difficult to identify the subject of the image. The women is Magda, a very famous DJ. The image is a Bird's Eye, Medium Close-Up Shot (Shot type) containing direct address (when the subject of the Main Image is looking at the camera) which is conventional of a Music Magazine front cover. The Masthead (title of the magazine) is also displayed in the top left hand corner which is another convention of the formation of a magazine due to the way that they are laid out on the shelves in stores. A number of Cover lines (short statements that describe just of few of the articles inside) are also displayed on the Right Side of the cover. This gives you an example of what you can expect inside. The Main Cover Line highlights the article about Magda as she is depicted in the Main Image and is the main focus of the current issue. The page islaid out using the rule of thirds (when the page is split into three columns to easily allocate the different content)
A barcode (series of parallel lines with varying
widths and numbers) has been included to help with stock control. These however, are not a legal requirement.
The house style (the style in which
each issue is created e.g. Fonts (the style of the text) and Colour Scheme (the colours used within the magazine) is used to help identify the magazine. The use of the slim font can connote the target audience (to whom the magazine is aimed) and in this case it will appeal to both genders in comparison with a fancy font that will appeal to women and a bold font which would appeal to men. This is furthered by the use of neutral colours such as Red, Yellow and White. The niche market can also be identified with the combination of the house style and the mise-en-scene (the subset of the market on which the product is focused). The focus of the Main image being a DJ will mean that the Magazine appeals more to the younger generation.
