How to Create

Opening Speeches

What is an Opening Speech?

A short speech you make at the beginning of
the debate; sort of like your introduction to
everyone else in the committee
Short 30~45 seconds (60 seconds in SC)
Purpose & Structure:
Introduce who you are
Declare which issue you are interested in more
Define your stance on the issue
A little greeting at the end?

Why is it important?
As said before, your self-introduction to
the committee.
Most people in your committee have never
seen you before; it is imperative that you
make a GOOD FIRST IMPRESSION.
My personal opinion - opening speeches
either make or break you in MUN
Conference.

Sample Opening Speech

MADMUN 2012
The delegate of France for the security council would like
to address the drones and the UAV Warfare conflicts.
The nation of France is concerned over the ongoing
UAV attacks, targeted killings and civilian casualties in
Pakistan, Somalia and elsewhere. The great nation of
France appreciates several attempts and reports of
both UN and NGOs on informing the public of the
danger of targeted killings; building on there, the
delegate would like to impose certain restrictions and
guidelines regarding the usage of the UAVs, having
examined several models of them. The delegate is
looking forward to heavily examining the topic in the
conference.
