5.2 Separation

In session 5.2 we learned about the FLS approach to evaluating

separator efficiency.
For the closed circuit cement mills on your cement factory I
want you to calculate the separation efficiency of the
separators.
You will need to take samples of the material exiting the mill,
the fines from the separator, and the grits from the separator and
measure their particle size distribution, by sieve residue.45_
is an appropriate size..if you have a laser granulometer then
somewhat finer..32_.
With this and the feed rate to the mill you can calculate the
circulation factor, C.

5.2 Separation

In session 5.2 we learned about the FLS approach to evaluating

separator efficiency.
For the closed circuit cement mills on your cement factory I
want you to calculate the separation efficiency of the
separators.
Using a grinding constant, W, of 75 kWh/t you can then
calculate the separator efficiency.
Who is the supplier of the separator and what is its generation?
Is the separation efficiency in line with that which would be
expected of its generation?

Cement Technology

Module 5 - Exercise 2

5.2 Separation

In the exercise following session 5.1 we checked the power drawn

by the mill main motors.
Now lets check the total electrical energy drawn by each
milli.e. what is the addition power drawn by the
transport around the circuit, separator, mill fan, separator fan
etc.?.........How is the this power broken down?.....i.e. which
drives are consuming what power?
Finally what are the dimensions and typical rotational speed of
the separator?

Thank You
