to compare 2 things

Desktop Computer

Laptop Computer

Eg: big
A desktop computer is bigger than a
laptop.

Eg: light
A laptop computer is lighter than a
desktop.

Eg: expensive
A laptop computer is more expensive than
a desktop.

Eg: powerful
A desktop computer is more powerful than
a laptop.

If

the adjective has 1 syllable, we add er.

eg:

big bigger
fast faster
old older

If

the adjective has 2 or more syllables,


we usually use more + adjective

eg:

powerful more powerful


expensive more expensive
handsome more handsome

If

a 2 syllable adjective ends in y,


we use +ier

eg:

friendly friendlier
happy happier
easy easier

Other
eg:

words are irregular


good better
badworse

For

multi-word adjectives, we use more.

Eg:

up to datemore up to date
user friendlymore user friendly

We have to remember to use the verb be


Eg: The laptop is lighter than the desktop.

We have to remember to use than

Never use er and more
