Process&Personalization:

DAY1,duringthepreparationprocess,studentswillbedividedin4groupsof78students.Ashomeworktheywillbe
askedtolookupforanyotherkindofrenditionofthenationalanthemandalsoaparticularstyleofmusicthattheylike
(rock,rap,disco,salsa,etc)withanexampleofit,theywillbeaskedtoshareitwiththeirrespectivegroupsonthenext
daytheclassmeets.
DAY2,atthebeginningoftheclass,eachgroupwillbeassignedasectionofthenationalanthem(4sections,4
groups).Thentheywillshareanddiscussthedifferentrenditionstheyfoundandalsolistthedifferentstylesofmusic
eachofthegroupmemberschose.Outofthedifferentstyles,theywillselectone(eitherbyputtingittothevoteor
commonagreement);thechosenstylewillbepresentedtothewholeclassandtheywillexplainwhytheydecidedon
thatstyle.Afterallstyleshavebeenintroduced,itllbedecidedasawholeclass;whichstyle(anthemsection)willwe
bevisitedandanalyzenextclass.
DAY3,atthebeginningoftheclass,thenotatedsectionoftheanthemwillbeprojectedonthewhiteboardviaFinale,
thestudentswilllistenandwillbeaskedtoidentifythedifferentelementsondisplay(melody,harmonies,rhythms,
whichinstrumentsareplayingwhat,phrasing).Later,andaudioexampleoftheselectedstylewillbeplayedforone
minute(nomusicnotationbutanaudiotrackdisplayedviaFruityloops{soitcanbesloweddownfortranscribing
purposes}),thenitwillbeopentodiscussionthevariousmusicalelementsthatmakeuptheselectedstyle(rhythm,
harmony,melody);asectionoftheaudiotrackwillbeloopedsoasaclasswestarttranscribinganeightmeasure
sampleofthestyleselection.Thetranscriptionwillbecomparedtothealreadywrittensectionoftheanthem.The
studentswillcontrastandcomparebothaudioselectionssofornextclasstheselectedsectionoftheanthemwilladopt
themusicalelementsoftheselectedstyle.
DAY4,withboth,thestylenotatedandthesectionoftheanthem;asaclasswewillstartmanipulatingtheelementsof
theanthemssectionfusingitwiththeelementsofthestylesowewillhaveandstylizedsection,studentswillbestart
workingontheirrespectiveinstrumentslearningtheircorrespondingmusicalline.
DAY5,6,7,8,9,10;wewillrepeatthesameprocessasinday3and4.
DAY11,thestudentswillvoteonwhichofthefourdifferentstylesthewholeanthemshouldberearrangedorifthey
wanttokeepitasafusionofthefourdifferentstyles.Iftheychoosetorearrangeinonestyle,therearrangingprocess
willtakeplaceinthefollowing4sessionstheclasswillmeet.Iftheychoosetofuse,duringthesametime45sessions,
asawholegroup;wewillcomeupwithanintroductiontotheanthemandmusicaltransitionsonhowitmovesfrom
sectiontosectionandsoundsasawhole.
Perform:
Beingthewholearrangementanendoftheyearproject,thestudentswillstartrehearsingthearrangementandperform
theirrenditionofthenationalanthemattheendofyearconcert.

Notes/Extension:
Arrangingisaprocessthatmaybeappliedtoanykindofmusic,allisneedforitistheabilitytolistencarefully,
understandwhatisgoingonmusically,andinwhichwayisintendedtobemanipulatedsoitobtainsthedesired
sonority.
