Introduction
In Megan Abbotts novel, Dare Me, she exposes her audience to the dark and sinister, but
highly addictive life that is high school. Her tyrannical characters convey a need for absolute
power and importance, and they personify the ongoing desire of domination that human society
craves and chases after. The leaders in the book are in constant anxiety of being taken away their
power, and eventually, this ruins them. This novel plays strongly on the primal and vindictive
wickedness that is existent in all humans, forcing us to see ourselves in the egotistical
ruthlessness that makes Abbotts characters.
Background
Pride has been corrupting minds for ages and ages to come. We are constantly told of the
perils that can derive from letting our brains become victim to egotism, and humans are
continuously taught the value of humility. It is an understood concept that too much selfimportance will eventually become the downfall of a person. Even though this notion is
universally recognized, society is enormously unable to let these principles guide them. It is
because of such vile pride that there are unceasing cases of rape, violence, murder, and social
degradation. Because of pride, humans refuse to relent in the presence of subjugation. Humans
are terrified not being guaranteed total supremacy and it is due to this fear that people will
commit horrible acts of immorality in order to feel that sense of security again. One of these
horrific acts includes raping in order to experience a feeling of power.

Project Summary
I would like to bring awareness to the globally problematic matter of rape an act that
happens out of selfish pride. People constantly must be reminded to let go of their malicious ego,
but even when persistently informed of their misdoings, humans rarely care enough to change
their ways and the universe goes on to continue living its inherently cruel and vicious pattern.
However, I think with the right education and attention given about this injustice, society may be
able to stop hurting innocent victims.
Conclusion
In conclusion, humanity may be able to benefit from lesser cases of rape if given the
means of education surrounding rape culture around the world. I would like to see a world
where rape, a true violation, no longer haunts females the way it does today. I hope that one day
past victims of rape will no longer live in fear that such horror may ensue again.
