4. ANTIFUNGALS

MIKOSTAT
ORAL SUSPENSION

Prophylaxis
Usual dose: 1,000,000 units (10mL) once daily.
Neonates: 100,000 units (1mL) once daily.

Presentation
Oral suspension: Bottle of 30mL.
Composition
Each 1mL of the suspension contains:
Nystatin 100,000 I.U.
Indications
Prophylaxis and treatment of the following fungal
infections:
Candidal infection of the oral cavity and perioral region,
as it is used locally as a mouthwash.
Intestinal candidiasis.
Dosage and Administration
Oral and perioral candidal infections:
As a mouthwash after food, it is recommended to keep
100,000 units (1mL) in the mouth, repeat every
6 hours. Continue the treatment for 7 days. The
treatment should be continued for 48 hours after the
lesions have resolved to prevent relapse.
Note: Immunosuppressed patients may require higher
doses, which are around 500,000 units (5mL) every
6 hours.
Intestinal candidiasis:
Treatment
Adults: 500,000 units (5mL) every 6 hours, to be doubled
in severe infections to 1,000,000 units (10mL) every
6 hours.
Children: 100,000 units (1mL) every 6 hours.
