The Institute has an area of 8.5acres at Geeta colony in which a State-of-Art Campus with ultra-modern facilities and lush green ambiance all around is built. The foundation Stone of the new campus was laid by The Honor- able Chief Minister of Delhi Mrs. Sheila Dixit on 24th May 2006. The campus was built in a record time of 18 months by the PWD. The College is having facilities like Centralized Air-Condi- tioning, RO System, lush green playground, Rain harvesting system, nursery etc. At Present Delhi has various reputed Engineering Institutes like IIT, DCE, NSIT and Govt. / Private Institutes affiliated to GGSIP University. To cater to the needs of technical education due to the growth of manpower, AIACTR was started in 2001 with 30 intakes each in ECE and CSE branch. One batch has already passed during 2005 with excellent campus placement, it is envisaged that more technical manpower will be required. Due to high growth of population a number of Multi-National Companies have come up in and around Delhi. To cater the needs of these industries large technical manpower is required. The College vision is to become an Institute of Excellence in the field of Post-Graduate Engineering. AIACTR presently offers four M.Tech programs as per the details given below 1. Information Security 2. Digital Communication 3. Signal Processing 4. R F & Microwave Engineering. ABOUT SAMUDRA SAMUDRA is an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) devel- oped by a team of undergraduate students from AIACTR (formerly Ambedkar Institute of Technology) to compete in the AUVSI. SAMUDRA is based on the principle low cost and high efficiency. Technologically we have discarded the concept the use of single board computer and embraced the idea of high performance micro-processors. SAMUDRA is designed for deep sea explora- tion, navigation at very high speed and accuracy. The vehicle has six thrusters design which enhances its maneuverability. The microprocessor being used here is Cortex™-A9Q microprocessor unit (MPU) subsystem, including two ARM® Cortex-A9 cores capable of operation at 1.2GHz and the operating system being used is Linux Fedora. The embedded processor system allows us the flexibility to have very high speed algorithms at low power consumption. Also the system is equipped with vision with on board image processing in Open CV and also the system is capable to perform the path detection, obstacle avoidance and target identification activi- ties. The vehicle will also be equipped with acoustic system which can accurately identify and enhance the acoustic signal received underwater and process it. For the navigation, it will be equipped with compass and IMU. The whole system has been divided into mechanical, electron- ics, programming and computer vision. The other sensors onboard include pressure sensor. ABOUT SAMUDRA Why AUV? * Deep Sea Research Activities. ° Deep Sea Rescue Operations. © Underwater Mine Surveys. © Ocean Floor Mapping. * Oil and Natural Gas Explorations. © Defense. © Other Commercial Uses... What is an AUV? An autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) is a robot which travels underwater. In military applications, AUVs are also known as unmanned undersea vehicles (UUVs). AUVs constitute part of a larger group of undersea systems known as unmanned under- water vehicles, a classification that includes non-autonomous remotely operated underwater vehicles (ROVs) - controlled and powered from the surface by an operator/pilot via an umbilical. ABOUT AUVSI Established by the Association for Unmanned Vehicles Systems International (AUVSI), the AUVS! Foundation is a non-profit orga- nization that provides students with hands-on robotics activities designed to fuel and sustain their interest in science, technol- ogy, engineering and math (STEM). Each year the AUVSI Foundation offers a series of educational programs as well as robotics competitions that allow students to apply their STEM education outside the classroom. The experi- ence is ideal preparation for entering the workforce, which is why participating students are frequently offered coveted internship and employment opportunities while still in school. Since the competitions began in 1991, more than $1.3 million has been awarded in prize money. ABOUT ROBOSUB Organised by AUVSI and co-sponsored by the U.S. Office of Naval Research (ONR), the goal of this competition is to advance the development of Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) by challenging a new generation of engineers to perform realistic missions in an underwater environment. The event also serves to foster ties between young engineers and the organizations developing AUV technologies. The Annual RoboSub Competition is an important key to keeping young engineers excited about careers in science, technology, engineering, and math and has been tremendously successful in recruiting students into the high-tech field of maritime robotics. Until relatively recently, AUVs have been used for a limited number of tasks dictated by the technology available. With the development of more advanced processing capabilities and high yield power supplies, AUVs are now being used for more and more tasks with roles and missions constantly evolving. COMMERCIAL The oil and gas industry uses AUVs to make detailed maps of the seafloor before they start building subsea infrastructure; pipe- lines and sub-sea completions can be installed in the most cost effective manner with minimum disruption to the environment. The AUV allows survey companies to conduct precise surveys or areas where traditional bathymetric surveys would be less effec- tive or too costly. Also, post-lay pipe surveys are now possible. 1. Oil and gas exploration: For Automated deep sea diving and exploration. 2. Underwater terrain mapping: Most of the inhospitable under- water terrains are inaccessible and hence it can help in the Underwater terrain mapping. MILITARY A typical military mission for an AUV is to map an area to deter- mine if there are any mines, or to monitor a protected area (such as a harbor) for new unidentified objects. AUVs are also employed in anti-submarine warfare, to aid in the detection of manned submarines. RESEARCH Scientists use AUVs to study lakes, ocean and ocean floor. A variety of sensors can be affixed to AUVs to measure the con- centration of various elements or compounds, the absorption or reflection of light and the presence of microscopic life. AUVs can be configured as tow-vehicles to deliver customized sensor packages to specific locations. Vehicles range in size from man portable lightweight AUVs to large diameter vehicles of over 10 m length. It has been widely accepted by commercial organiza- tions that to achieve the ranges and endurances required to optimize the efficiencies of operating AUVs a larger vehicle is required. However, smaller, lightweight and less expensive AUVs are still common as a budget option for universities. SEARCH AND RESCUE OPERATIONS For an immediate response where human intervention is not possible the AUV can be sent. Hence the AUV can be modeled specially for search and rescue operations in deep sea proving to be very helpful. APPLICATIONS OF SAMUDRA COMMERCIAL AVAILABILITY OF AUVS AS WELL AS THEIR MARKET SCOPE Available AUVS include various designs such as the small REMUS 100 AUV developed by Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in the US and now marketed by Hydroid, Inc.; the larger HUGIN 1000 and 3000 AUVs developed by Kongsberg Maritime and Norwegian Defence Research Establishment; the Bluefin Robotics 12 and 21inch-diameter (300 and 530 mm) vehicles and the International Submarine Engineering Ltd. Explorer. Most AUVs follow the traditional torpedo shape as this is seen as the best compromise between size, usable volume, hydrodynamic efficiency and ease of handling. There are some vehicles that make use of a modular design, enabling compo- nents to be changed easily by the operators. © Runner Up’s for the past two years at National level competition SAVe organized by National Institute of Ocean Technology, Ministry of Earth Sciences. © Selected for the final rounds of a national level competition SAVe organized by National Institute of Ocean Technology, Ministry of Earth Sciences with a total of 50 teams participating for the prelims and only 12 teams qualifying for the final round. © Acknowledged by Honorable Chief Minister of Delhi Mrs. Sheila Dixit During the India International Trade Fair 2013. ° First in 3 Technical Paper Presentations held during the annual technical festival of Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, Maharaja Surajmal Institute of Technology and Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology for the year 2013. with Honorable Chief Minister of Delhi Mrs. Sheila Dixit during IITF 2012 Samudra presented at Indian International Trade Fair’12 at Pragati Maidan, Delhi MEDIA COVERAGE aia? ai cle FA wl ear dene RaeTACISI & 13 wwal at Cat A Fa Koa sma wen cen ge = SAMUDRA coverage by Dainik Jagran Newspaper TP Uinwstudents develop vehicle to explore the deep sea ust ete 0a 008 oe SAMUDRA coverage by The Indian Express Newspaper OUR TEAM | rn @ WELCOME r AMBEDKAR INSTITUTE OF Gy is me OC) Wa ete ne) ale) a) Standing - (L to R) Aditya Naagar, Aman Shukla, Manav Kapoor, Rohit Singh Panwar Sitting - (L to R) Vibhanshu Jain, Himanshu Bhasin, Aaditya Bhatia, Shubham Sharma, Razi Ahmad, Abhishek Arora 12 TEAM AT WORK TEAM AT WORK TEAM AT WORK Sy NOB STAN ore lel mel} Rohit Sharma (Team Leader) - +91-9999456286 Manav Kapoor (Team Member) - +91-9810273187 Vibhanshu Jain (Team Member) - +91-7503165390 Email ID - aitauv@gmail.com Drea ea UEC Crit ates Tel Pall tka)
