Communication Plan

TWS Standard
The teacher communicates and collaborates effectively with parents and colleagues.
Task
Create a plan and provide examples of different ways you will communicate regularly and effectively
with parents/guardians and other professionals concerned with the education of your students.
Prompt
A. Family Communication
To communicate effectively with parents/guardians, I will use different types of communication. I
will first provide an introduction letter to let the parents/guardians know more about me. In this letter I
will put in all my contact information and encourage parents/guardians to contact me if they have any
concerns or questions. I will also let them know I am following the schools discipline and grading
policies. I will include a supply list. I believe that communicating with parents/guardians is very
important in furthering the education of the students. At the bottom of the letter, I have a contact
information sheet to have the parents/guardians fill out to let me know the best form and time of
communications for me to use to inform them about the student. I will also send an e-mail and/or give a
phone call about the student several times throughout the semester to let them know how their child is
doing and what I think works or does not work for them in the class. I will keep parents/guardians
updated frequently on the student whether it is through e-mail or phone calls. I want to make sure that I
do what is best for each student.

Dear Parents,
My name is Samantha Colman, I am your childs Mathematics Teacher this year. I am looking forward to
this year and teaching your child. I graduated from Lander University with a degree in Mathematics and
Secondary Education. I truly love math and want to help your child not only to learn the math I am
teaching but to enjoy the math. Math is an integral part in everything we do in school, careers and our
lives as a whole. My hope is to show your child that math is applicable in everyday living and it does not
need to be feared. Open communication with you as a parent/guardian is very important to me. I believe

B. Communication/Collaboration with Colleagues
I will collaborate with guidance counselors and other teachers to ensure students needs/concerns are
addressed. We will communicate by e-mail or phone as needed to make sure our students remain active
and participative in our classrooms. Our goal will be to address issues and assist students as quickly as
possible. The email I would send to my colleagues would be to see if other teachers and guidance
counselors are noticing similar concerns that are happening in my classroom. I will have a checklist that
will be marked with the issues I am observing and ask if anyone else sees any of the similar issues. If
they are, I will set up a meeting so we can start working on helping the student. I will send these emails
