I believe talk shows
completely rely on their audience to be successful. The whole idea of the show if for the host to communicate with the audience and get a response out of them, without the response there's no show. I believe the author was using the talk show as a parallel for human communications vs technological communications and how its just not the same. I don't believe technological interactions will ever be better than personal interactions; its just not the same and one can't have the same experience. You will always have the "you had to be there statement".

interesting parallel. I never assumed she was applying it to a larger topic. I liked your idea that a real audience creates a unique experience. There's not much I can say against you except that there are also some big benefits to not using a real life crowd: Faster comedy, no prolonged clapping, things always go exactly as planned. But other then that I agree completely.
