Plan Title - Behavior contingency plan for Human

Resource 1121
The following is a problem I faced when teaching freshman year information technology
students who had to study Human Resource Management as part of a requirement of their
degree.
Undesirable behavior: Students did not read the chapters that they were supposed to read before
class. They did not come to class prepared for group discussions.
Expected Behavior: They come read, ready to discuss and ask questions.
How to measure it? The class has 30 students. The students read and bring a one page reflection
to the class along with 4 questions to discuss. They will discuss in groups of 5. Every group who
have their reflections and questions on table when I, the teacher enter the class earns 1 alphabet.
The reflections would be submitted to me at the beginning of the class and would be graded by
me after the class.
The groups would be mixed ability cooperative learning groups. For this I will divide the class in
three groups of students performing good, average and poor and pick randomly from each group
to make group of 6 students. Thus, there will be total 5 groups.
To each group I will post a table topic which would be a question needing critical thinking about
the reading.
Corresponding TEKS: Human Resource Management
(c) Knowledge and skills.
(3) The student demonstrates the proper methods and sources of recruitment. The
student is expected to:
(A) evaluate the proper methods of recruiting externally;
(B) explain the proper methods of recruiting internally;
(C) hypothesize how to develop a diverse pool of talent for employment
consideration; and
(D) explain the application of Equal Employment Opportunity Commission
guidelines to the recruitment process.

Reinforcement/Reward
Immediate R+ - 1 alphabet to each group of 5 students for bringing in their reflection and 4
questions from the text and have it on the table when I enter the class.
Delayed R+ - Fill out all the words in the chart that follows.
Novel Interactive Learning Activity If the chart is filled in 6 weeks, the students get to take a
test in groups of 3 students. In this test, they can discuss and then answer the questions.
Teaching Plan This activity would be spread over 6 weeks period and would be done twice in a
semester
Across class periods This system could be adopted for any age groups and the rewards and
activity can be changed to be more age appropriate.
