Explore the Past

Sea mustard (miyeok, a type of brown seaweed) is native
to the waters off of Japan and Korea; it has been
consumed by Japanese and Koreans for thousands of
years.
Miyeok guk can be eaten at any time, but is traditionally
eaten by women right after they give birth and on
birthdays as a reminder of this first meal.
Koreans believe that eating miyeok guk on ones birthday
will bring good luck for the rest of the year.

Reflection
I was surprised to learn that in Korea
miyeok guk is such a special dish.
Although miyeok guk is very easy to
make, with just a few ingredients, it is
highly nutritious.
I highly recommend miyeok guk to
anyone who has never tried it before!

Korean culture?
