FEED WATER HEATERS

SgTPP, WBPDCL

Need of Heaters

Minimize latent heat loss

Maximize efficiency of Rankin Cycle
Maintain mill outlet temperature
Avoid secondary combustion and boiler tube
leakage

Heating zones of heater

De-superheating zone :
This is the last zone of the heater through which feed water passes before leaving the heater. Feed water outlet
temperature increases nearer to the saturation temperature of bled steam.

Condensing Zone :
Latent heat of the extraction steam is transferred to the feed water through this zone. Hence maximum heat transfer
is done here. For better performance continuous venting is required to extract any non-condensable gases in the
steam.

Sub-cooling zone :
Here feed water is heated by the drip of the condensate. The drip is cooled from its saturation temperature to heat
the feed water.
