Reflective Analysis of Portfolio Artifact

Rationale/Reflection
InTASC/NAEYC Standard: Becoming a Professional

Identifying and involving oneself with the early childhood field

Knowing about and upholding ethical standards and other professional guidelines
Engaging in continuous, collaborative learning to inform practice
Integrating knowledgeable, critical and reflective perspectives on early education
Engaging in informed advocacy for children and the profession

Brief Description of Evidence:

During fall semester of 2014 I took ECED 101, and in this class I created a planned menu. It was
a one week menu that consisted of breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack. When creating my
menu, I created it for preschool age. I followed the food program guidelines and added the
required serving sizes to my menu.

Analysis of What I Learned:

When doing this activity I learned how much food you are required to serve to a preschooler.
You are required to serve a vegetable and fruit with every meal, and at least one or the other
has to be served during breakfast and lunch. Also, you are required to give the children a
specific serving size of each food to ensure they get enough.

How This Artifact Demonstrates my Competence on the InTASC/NAEYC

Standard:
I used the NAEYC standard above during this assignment because I had to follow the food program
guidelines in order to make a menu that could be used in daycare facility or school. It is important to

know about all these guidelines for when I myself work in the professional field. By knowing these
guidelines, when I have my own classroom I will be able to make sure my students are fed nutritious
meals and snacks.
